Meet The Band

Bruce Smith - Keyboards & Vocals

Bruce Smith has a BA in Music from East Carolina and an MA in Music from the University of SC. He began his professional music career as a jazz pianist with U.S. Army Bands before becoming a Warrant Officer Bandmaster.   Bruce is currently the Associate Music Director at Genesis Methodist Church.  He is also an accomplished jazz and pop vocalist. His musical influences are jazz, funk, R&B, and blues.

Michael McPherson - Drums

Mike is a native of NC and is an exceptional musician who played with the US Army Band and also with Leon Jordan's Continentals (Big Band) for many years. Mike’s rock solid ability to play styles from straight ahead jazz, to funk, to ballroom dance makes him one of the most versatile drummers on the scene today.

Doug Mayes - Saxophones

Doug Mayes began playing saxophone as a kid after an encounter with a Dexter Gordon album ignited a lifelong passion for jazz. He's studied with noted jazz trombonist and educator Tommy Smith and Frank Bongiorno during his time at UNCW in the 90's. Since then, he's been active on the jazz scene in Wilmington, Phoenix and Raleigh. He currently leads his own jazz quartet, is featured in several local area bands. His powerful sound is a perfect blend of jazz, soul, and funk!
